Mini Football is a modified version of the 11 a side game giving children between the ages of 5yrs and 11yrs the chance to play real football, for a real team, whilst experiencing an enjoyable and fun introduction to the game.
Mini football is recognised by the F.A.W. as the only form of football in Wales for children under 11 years old. The F.A.W. believes that children should learn how to compete fairly, skillfully and within the rules of the game.
Modification of Rules
The F.A.W. adopts standard soccer rules to meet the needs of the kids who are playing, while maintaining the basic features of the game. The biggest change in the rules is to restrict the number of players on the field. Kids younger than the age of 7 play four on four instead of the usual 11 on 11. With only eight players on the field, the opportunity to establish contact with the ball by each player is magnified. Instead of becoming bored spectators in an 11 on 11 match, each kid has many more opportunities to dribble or shoot or pass the ball.
